  3. Step three sharpie your patterns.
  4. Step four dye your background.
  5. Once dry glue sea animal to paper.

rounding and compensating

W.A.L.T use rounding and compensating to solve addition problems.

last week my group the circles have been learning rounding and compensating. This is when you round one number to a tidy ten, and then you take away the same amount from the other number.
Below is a picture of how to do this.

I really enjoyed doing this strategy because it is easier to work out problems.

Have you ever done rounding and compensating?

challenge yourself to figure these question out.

1. Ben had 65 cows miss Thompson gave him 59 more how many cows does Ben have now?

2. Jess had 127 kittens and Caleb gave me 75 more how many kittens does Jess have now?

Explanation wrighting.

W.A.L.T write an explanation piece of writing.

This term for writing we have been focusing on explanation writing. Below this is my piece of writing about how bees make honey.

How do bees make honey?

Introduction.
Did you know New Zealand can sell 30 kg of honey per hive? They also have two tummies, one for food and one for honey.

Collecting nectar.
Bees prefer to collect nectar in spring because that's when the flowers are in bloom. They suck the nectar out using the proboscis, Proboscis is a scientific word for their straw like tongue. They store the honey in one of their tummies while returning to hive.

Returningto hive.
They return to the hive when their stomachs are full. They pass the nectar into each worker bees mouth until it becomes sticky honey. Then they store it in honeycomb.

Turning into honey.
The worker bees flap their wings to dry out the honey, once the honey is dry they seal it with a wax lid.

Conclusion.
The cleaver bees make the delicious honey and humans sell it around the world.

I am proud of my work because i wrote more than i expected. Next time i could add a picture to make it look better and more interesting.

Do you know anything about bees?
